Five Story Project Will Create Significant Vitality to Minnetonka Village Center
Doran Companies received approval from the Minnetonka City Council last evening for their proposed five-story multi-family project at 5959 Shady Oak Road, the former International Spanish Language Academy (ISLA) site. In a unanimous decision, the Council approved the rezoning application presented by Doran to build the 350-unit project.
“Our team is excited about this site and its contribution to the long-term viability of the area,” said Anne Behrendt, CEO of Doran Companies. “Not only will this housing support local businesses and employers, we believe the project will complement the existing neighborhood and drive sustainability of the community.”
Doran Architecture designed the project paying considerable attention to preserving natural resources and enhancing the outdoor environment. The plan calls for the preservation of many of the sites existing trees and the addition of trees and plantings that will create a natural buffer area between the project and Shady Oak Road. A community garden and bee pollinator garden are planned for the project. Upon completion, the project will exceed the energy code by utilizing several green building and design features. Some of those features include electric car charging stations, enrollment in a community solar garden, enhanced stormwater management system, occupancy sensor controls, programmable energy star components in individual units, and proximity to a public transit corridor.
The multi-family project consists of market and affordable studio, alcove, one, two, and three-bedroom units. Amenities include multiple co-working and community gathering spaces, a bike lounge, theater, game simulator, pet spa, dog run, entertainment suites, and fitness areas. Doran Construction is anticipating breaking ground Summer 2021.
The project will be managed by Doran’s property management team, Whitecap Management, with an anticipated opening in 2023.
