With 25 years experience developing, constructing and managing millions of square feet of commercial properties, including award-winning projects such as Tamarack Village, in Woodbury, the Village of Blaine, in Blaine, Silver Lake Village, in St. Anthony and Calhoun Commons, in Minneapolis; and 15 years as President of Edina-based Robert Muir Company, Kelly Doran went on to form the Doran Companies in 2007. Joined by colleagues who share his vision, integrity, and dedication, in a few short years the Doran Companies have established a remarkable track record in the industry.
In 2008, when the great recession essentially put commercial developments at a standstill, Doran Companies was a leader in adapting to the new economy. Displaying keen vision, the company saw an opportunity to develop premier student housing at the University of Minnesota. Doran Companies developed and built the Sydney Hall apartments in iconic Dinkytown; purchased and renovated the historic Dinkydome building; completed a second Dinkytown student housing development, the 412 Lofts; and will open The Edge on Oak, a third student housing project in the U of M’s Stadium Village neighborhood in the fall of 2012. A fourth student housing project, 1101 University will break ground in 2012. A separate, luxury apartment project, Mill & Main, will break ground in the spring of 2012 on the Mississippi Riverfront in St. Anthony Main. Complementing these developments, Doran Construction completed numerous remodel and build-out projects for local companies, and saw phenomenal growth building commercial, residential, and industrial projects throughout Upper Midwest for businesses such as Menards, Trader Joes, IRET, Park Dental, and U.S. Bank.
As a privately owned company, Doran Companies’ extensive financial resources not only allow for project flexibility, but the ability to directly respond to our clients with rapid and firm decisions. With a company structure that is designed to approach projects with maximum decision making efficiency and minimum delay of implementation, Doran companies has built trusting relationships with financial institutions around the country. Evidence of our respect in the lending world is our success in obtaining financing for multi-million dollar projects at a time when many developments are unable to secure financing. Over the past three years, in a very volatile economy and dormant commercial building environment, Doran Companies has obtained loans for land purchases for future developments, construction loans for mixed-use projects and permanent financing for others.
From our first day in business, customer loyalty has been our strategy for long-term success. As a local and family-owned company, we are exceptionally committed to delivering quality services in all aspects of our business. As developers and owners of commercial properties, we understand the process and apply that experience to help our customers anticipate and avoid difficult issues that often arise during construction projects. While our employees excel in their respective areas of expertise, they are also dedicated to developing strong connections with customers by providing them with information directly suited to their needs and interests and by promoting open communication before, during and after a project is completed. This attention to project detail and the long-term needs of our clients has served us well and is demonstrated in the lasting engagements we have developed with companies like McDonalds, Menards, LA Fitness, Cold Stone Creamery, CVS and U.S. Bank.
As developers and owners of commercial, mixed-use and multi-family properties we understand the importance of architectural design and landscape in creating an enduring appeal for properties. Having won numerous awards for design, aesthetics, and construction, our extremely high standard for excellence in all aspects of development, construction and property management has resulted in an impressive record of recognition. Most recently, Doran Companies received awards for student housing and retail projects Sydney Hall/Dinkydome, renovation and remodel projects for LA Fitness in St. Louis Park and Burnsville and shopping center developments Oakdale Village and Silver Lake Village.
